Job Title: Internal Sales Engineer

Our Company:

Coulton Instrumentation distributes process and field instrumentation worldwide.  We maintain substantial stock levels of product and our aim is to provide our customers with a single point of supply from stock, at competitive prices. 

Our product range includes Pressure Transmitters, Chart and Paperless Recorders, Pressure Switches, Temperature Controllers, Control Valves, Orifice Plates… We are proud to represent Fuji Electric OMC and Ettore Cella in the UK market.    

Role:

We are currently recruiting for an office-based Sales Engineer to join our busy and growing team.  The focus of this customer facing role is to act as the technical product specialist, dealing with sales, pricing and customer queries for both existing and new customers over the telephone and by email.  You will and also act as a mentor to our current apprentice, and deal with technical queries as presented by the team.

This role reports to the Managing Director and will work closely with the Technical Sales Manager.

Principal Tasks and Accountabilities include:

• Managing and interpreting customer requirements, ­ speaking with new and existing clients to understand, anticipate and practically meet their needs
• Offering clients a product or service that best satisfies their needs in terms of technical specification, quality, price and delivery.
• Providing pre-sales technical expertise and product education 
• Calculating accurate and competitive sales quotations and preparing tenders, proposals, designs and technical documents to meet customer deadlines  
• Following up quotations in a timely manner to secure orders
• Negotiating contract terms and conditions to meet both customer and company needs
• Offering after-sales support services that develop and grow long-term relationships with new and existing customers 
• Building close relations with suppliers and developing in-depth knowledge  of their products and new product developments   
• Solving client problems in terms of technical solutions and design of custom-made products   
• Analysing costs and sales, to be able to make informed pricing recommendations  for core and new business opportunities; and propositions in emerging markets    
• Preparing pricing and sales reports to contribute to the overall business strategy, including use of benchmarking to gauge market levels accurately
• Liaising closely with members of the team to provide a technical point of reference for electronics
• Providing mentoring support and technical training to the apprentice, which includes supervision of quotes and proposals.  

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will possess an HNC in Electrical Engineering/2:1 Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Control & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent, and at least three years experience in an electrical engineering role, with knowledge of the following products:  Transmitters, Flowmeters, Switches, Signal Conditioners, HMI and Indicators, Controllers, Recorders, Analysers, Control Valves and Accessories.  

Excellent communication, IT and written presentation skills are an essential pre-requisite of this role, along with a sound numeric aptitude and attention to detail when costing, interpreting and preparing technical documents.  

You will have a strong customer focus with the ability to turn enquiries into quotations and orders.    

This is an internal sales role and you will be able to demonstrate the skills required to offer technical support and guidance to a close-knit team, and liaising with the team to meet orders on time and to technical specifications.
